ABSTRACT
NEP 2020 lays strong emphasis on incorporation of Indian Knowledge System/Traditions in university curriculum throughout the country. It believes that IKS is capable of addressing many of the problems India is facing today. Problems ranging from unemployment, increasing population, social disharmony, ethical issues, science, technologies and humanities, health, medicines and everything that is directly or indirectly related with human life. They have a very substantial reason to believe in the inherent potential of IKS for today’s problems. With its large repository of knowledge in almost all field of life India has always enlightened the rest of the world and has had a very rich tapestry of wisdom since its antiquity. The present monograph tends to explore the rich history of IKS which has been carried forward with orality in its earlier phases and then in scripted form, better known as Shruti and Smriti tradition. It also investigates what are the chief stimuli behind the development of such a resourceful, useful and all satiating tradition of knowledge.
