Stress is the inherent part of every individual which
affects the physical, psychological and social facets of life. Everyday demands
and expectations pushes people to an edge where they become stressed out when
their demands are unmet. Many physical ailments are identified to be the main cause
of occupational stress. Understanding and handling of emotions, emotional
recognition and expression, cognitive and emotional control are the major
determinants of stress management. It is stated that people who are smart in
emotional terms are more optimistic, have the power to adapt the change and
manage any stressful situations. Thus, Emotional Intelligence has a significant
effect on the level of stress and their ability in handling that perceived
stress. A greater knowledge of Emotional Intelligence provides better life
management skills because they are more goal oriented, more focused and they
learn to use their emotions in a constructive way. In context this, this
article analyses the significant factors of Emotional Intelligence in terms of
its vital role in coping up with today‟s competitive and rapidly changing
environment.
