Fostering Employee Engagement through the Mediating Effect of Workplace Belongingness among the Faculty Members of Private Universities of Pakistan

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to identify the key determinants of employee engagement along with the mediating role of workplace belongingness between organizational justice, job crafting and appreciative leadership with employee engagement. Further, this study was done quantitatively with cross sectional design. Proportionate strata sampling and convenient sampling was used for data collection from 550 faculty members who were serving in the private universities of Pakistan. Further, SEM-PLS 3.0 was used to analyze the data. According to the results the effect of organizational justice, job crafting and appreciative leadership on employee engagement is significant. Further, mediating effect of workplace belongingness between appreciative leadership, job crafting and employee engagement were significant. Mediating effect of workplace belongingness between organizational justice and employee engagement was not significant. The findings of this study may be used in practice for human resource managers (Head of department or director) about some of the organizational practice (e.g. justice), meaningful job related factor (job crafting) and leadership role (appreciative leadership) which are quite important to increase the workplace belongingness which eventually leads to enhance the employee’s engagement.
