Foam Technology was used to Generate, Characterise, and Enhance Oral Poloxamer Alginate Floating Bead Containing Glimepiride Bioavailability

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to develop and evaluate floating gastro-retentive beads of glimepiride, an oral diabetic medicine, to improve drug bioavailability. Floatable beads were made using the dripping technique. We enhanced the formulations floatability and in-vitro drug release, buoyancy, and 74.3% yield were observed for the floating beads. Studies of drug release in vitro indicate that formulation I4 is the optimal formulation, releasing 99.28% of glimepiride in a controlled manner after 24 hours.
