ABSTRACT

In this paper, I have tried to narrate the pros and cons of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). I have tried to highlight the perspective of students towards a particular video, through measurement of time a student uses to watch a particular video. However, it is difficult to measure true engagement and also whether they attempt post video assessment problem or not. I have tried to find out the hurdle that prevents the students from sustained engagement and learning. I have even explored the reason behind high dropout rates in Massive Open Online Courses. Students are attracted towards Khan Style tablet drawing tutorials and these videos are booming nowadays on YouTube. Khan Style tablet drawing tutorials have been viewed on YouTube for more than (Guo P. J., 2014) 300 million times. In this study I have found out that the students are not much engaged towards pre-recorded classroom lectures, rather human face provides much intimate feel to the students. Findings also resonated that PowerPoint slides and code screencasts are not much engaging. Moreover, students get personal feel with human face. The study also includes the impact of factors on self-synchronizing learning expertise in MOOCs and identifying elements which impacts on the learning skills. In addition, the paper delineates how preliminary knowledge, activities and expertise are helpful in predicting MOOC performance. Finally, the effectiveness of various instructional approaches has been highlighted in promoting personal skills in a MOOC programme.
