Influence of Socio-Demographic Factors on Criminal Intent Among Adolescents: An Analysis

ABSTRACT

Though it is widely accepted that peer influence is the major factor that influences crime intent among adolescents, there are also many other factors that contribute to individual differences. The researchers in this study aimed at analyzing the impact of Gender, Level of Education, Type of Family, Nature of Employment of Parents, Dual Employment of Parents, Family Income (in Rupees) and Area of Residence on the criminal intent of adolescents. The data are collected using questionnaire consisting of 25 items developed by researchers. The sample size considered for the study is 130. The collected data are analysed using the statistical tools of means, standard deviations, t-test and ANOVA. The findings of the study revealed a significant influence of considered variables of Gender, Level of Education, Type of Family, Nature of Employment of Parents, Dual Employment of Parents, Family Income (in Rupees) and Area of Residence on the criminal intent of adolescents. The paper is concluded with the measures to be taken to curb the criminal intent among the adolescents.
